About the King James Version
King James VI and I commissioned the translation in 1604, after the Hampton Court Conference, and it was published in 1611. Forty-seven scholars did the work in six committees, two each at Oxford, Cambridge and Westminster. The text most printings use today, and the one here, is the 1769 Oxford edition edited by Benjamin Blayney.
Words in italics were added by the translators to make the English read smoothly; they have no direct counterpart in the Hebrew or Greek. The divine name is printed LORD in capitals.
Two verses in the KJV
A Psalm of David. The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.
Psalm 23:1, KJV
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
John 3:16, KJV
