About the World English Bible
The World English Bible is an update of the 1901 American Standard Version into modern English. Work began in 1994 under Michael Paul Johnson and the text was declared complete in 2020. The New Testament follows the Byzantine Majority Text; the Old Testament follows the Biblia Hebraica Stuttgartensia.
This edition prints the divine name as Yahweh, where the KJV has LORD and the ASV has Jehovah. Readers who want present-day wording with no copyright limits usually start here.

A Psalm by David. Yahweh is my shepherd; I shall lack nothing.
Psalm 23:1, WEB
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only born Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish, but have eternal life.
John 3:16, WEB
Questions
Is the World English Bible public domain?
Yes. Its translators dedicated it to the public domain. The name "World English Bible" is a trademark of eBible.org, used here because the text is unchanged.
Why does the WEB say Yahweh?
It renders the Hebrew divine name as a name, Yahweh, where older English Bibles print LORD.
Is the WEB a good modern translation to read?
It reads in plain present-day English and is close to the ASV in meaning. Compare a few verses in the side by side guide.
